Accidental burns are a hidden problem and can lead to patient complications. In most healthcare organisations prevention currently includes only visual control of electrosurgery instrumentation, but testing campaigns are now necessary in order to identify maximum instruments’ defects. Amongst 489 electrosurgical instruments visually tested for integrity, 13.1 % were visually intact. There is the added risk from the invisible defects, and this can be reduced by diathermy testing. The DIATEG is a new-generation of insulation testers which is proven to be very effective to accurately detect defects.
